Zimbabwe Vehicle Information

Zimbabwe is a Right Hand Drive country and Jim Autos Thailand, Jim Autos Singapore, Jim Autos United kingdom, Jim Autos New Zealadn and Jim Autos Australia are exporting Right Hand Drive new and used Toyota Hilux Vigo, Toyota Hilux Tiger, Mitsubishi L200 Triton, Nissan Navara and a host of other 4×4 pickups and SUVs to Zimbabwe via Durban and Beira ports. Zimbabwe allows import of both RHD and LHD vehicles but it is safer to use RHD vehicles and bulk of our exports are of RHD vehicles.

A very good network of paved roads stretches across the countryside. Personal automobiles remain the most reliable form of transportation between cities, but the frequent lack of fuel at many Petrol stations can make long distance traveling problematic. Most travelers fill up in Harare before leaving the city, and carry adequate fuel for the round trip in portable “jerrycans”.

There is no restriction on age of imported used vehicles and you can import vehicles older than ten years if you so choose though vehicles older than five years attract a 25% surchage. Maintenance is available locally, but is not always satisfactory. The price for replacement parts is high and the parts themselves are not always immediately available. Right-hand-drive Chevrolet Blazers, Daimler Chrysler minivans, Toyotas, Nissans, Isuzus, Mazdas, Landrovers, Mercedes, South African Fords, and Opels are the most common vehicles. A four-wheel-drive vehicle is preferable and, in some cases, the only viable choice.

Most German and Japanese and some American cars can be serviced in urban centers. However, standards of service vary from good to poor, depending on the particular vehicle and on the particular mechanic. Frequently, parts for vehicles must be ordered from the country of manufacture and extended waits for repairs are commonplace. To avoid these delays, we recommend that you purchase most spare parts and filters along with your vehicle. Some prefer to take their vehicles to South Africa for servicing. Dealer service for the most popular makes and models is available, but please note that Zimbabwean or South African dealers will not acknowledge Toyota Thailand’s warranty. Toyota, Nissan, Honda, Mazda, Isuzu, Mercedes Benz, BMW, VW, and Opel are all popular in the South African market.

If you buy from Jim Authorized dealers in Zimbabwe they stock most used parts and will be able to service your vehicle.

Automobiles shipped from the Thailand come by sea to either Durban or Beira, and are railed or trucked to Harare. Though security situation in South Africa has made many consider Beira and even Walvis Bay as a preferrable option..
